How KyaDekhu picks what to watch
By the KyaDekhu team · Updated · Availability for India from JustWatch, ratings from IMDb
Short answer: It filters the 25,256 titles streaming in India down to what's on your apps, in your language and fitting your time, then ranks them: 40% taste match, 25% mood match, 15% quality (vote-weighted IMDb rating), 10% freshness and 10% popularity. You get 3 picks: the best match, the best match from a different genre, and a wildcard.
The catalogue
25,256 movies and web series streaming in India on 9 apps, in 76 languages, rebuilt every night (last: 23 October 2026). 18,935 have a parents check. Live counts are on the press page.
Step by step
- 1. Your apps
Pick the OTT apps you have. Only titles playable on them (subscription, free or with ads) are eligible; rent/buy titles never are.
- 2. 10-second taste quiz
Tap the posters you like. Your taste profile starts at the catalogue average and moves towards what you tap or like.
- 3. Tonight's filters
Who's watching, mood, time (one episode, ~2 hours, movie night), language and free-only. Family mode keeps U, U/A 7+ and U/A 13+ titles.
- 4. Ranking
40% taste + 25% mood (cosine similarity on per-dimension z-scores) + 15% quality (Bayesian IMDb, prior 6.8 worth 5,000 votes) + 10% freshness (new on your apps in the last 14 days) + 10% popularity (log of IMDb votes), minus a penalty for near-copies of things you skipped.
- 5. 3 picks
#1 best score, #2 best from a different genre, #3 a wildcard. Swipe, then one tap opens the app.

Frequently asked questions
How does KyaDekhu pick what to watch?
It filters the 25,256 titles streaming in India down to what's on your apps, in your language and fitting your time, then ranks them: 40% taste match, 25% mood match, 15% quality (vote-weighted IMDb rating), 10% freshness and 10% popularity. You get 3 picks: the best match, the best match from a different genre, and a wildcard.
Where does KyaDekhu's data come from?
Titles, posters and trailers from the TMDB API; which app streams what in India from JustWatch via TMDB; ratings and vote counts from IMDb's datasets; identifiers from Wikidata; extra context from Wikipedia. The catalogue is rebuilt every night.
Which apps and languages does KyaDekhu cover?
Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5, Apple TV, MX Player, SonyLIV, MUBI, YouTube. 76 languages, led by English, Hindi, Japanese, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu.
Is KyaDekhu free? Do I need to log in?
Yes, it's free with no login and no ads. It doesn't sell anything or take money from streaming apps for placement; the Watch button simply opens the app.
What is the taste quiz and the 8 taste dimensions?
Every title has an 8-dimension profile (thrill, mind-bend, warmth, dark, pace, humour, family, spectacle) scored by a language model from its synopsis, genres and keywords. The 10-second poster quiz moves your own profile towards what you tap; it's saved anonymously (no account).
What is the parents check?
An AI estimate from public plot information of how likely a title includes sexual content, violence, strong language or substance use, shown as Likely / Possibly / Unlikely. It's a guide, not a certificate.
How are the 'best' lists ranked?
By a vote-weighted (Bayesian) IMDb rating — every title starts at 6.8 worth 5,000 votes, so a 9.0 from 200 votes doesn't beat an 8.5 from 200,000 — plus a small popularity term.
Does KyaDekhu store my data?
There are no accounts. KyaDekhu keeps an anonymous device ID, your taste profile and anonymous usage events (deleted after 180 days) — never your name, email, phone number, IP address or what you type or say in the Ask box. 'Forget me' deletes it all. Details on the About page.
